Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) hosted The Agriculturist Olympiad 2026 on Wednesday, bringing together around 500 students for a competition focused on agricultural knowledge, talent development and career opportunities.
The event, organised by the GAU branch of the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) Bangladesh with sponsorship from Qamarun Agro Farm, featured an award ceremony and career counselling session at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium on the university campus.
GAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman attended the programme as chief guest, while Treasurer Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad was present as special guest. Director of Research Professor Dr Md Moshiul Islam and faculty members also attended the event.
In a career counselling session, Dr Sattwikesh Paul, Associate Professor of Surgery and Radiology at GAU, discussed higher education opportunities and career prospects abroad. Md Hasibul Hasan, Agriculture Officer of Kaliganj, Gazipur, spoke about career opportunities in public service.
Addressing the students, Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman highlighted the role of agricultural professionals in ensuring global food security, promoting sustainable development and transforming the agriculture sector.
He encouraged students to set clear goals, develop their skills and pursue careers with dedication and confidence, drawing from his own professional experience.
Among 500 registered participants, the top 10 performers received prizes, crests and certificates. Mst Tafassia Tawhid secured first place, followed by Md Muit Al Zubair in second place and Sabrina Salam in third.
The programme concluded with a closing speech by Taufiqul Islam, Local Director of IAAS Bangladesh’s GAU branch.
