Actress Pori Moni has secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court following the issuance of an arrest warrant against her in a case filed over allegations of assault and intimidation involving businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud.
The court granted her bail on a bond of Tk500.
Pori Moni surrendered before the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman around 11:40am on Thursday and filed a bail petition. After hearing the petition, the court granted her bail.
She arrived at the court premises around 9:30am.
Earlier, the court fixed Wednesday (4 November) for recording testimony in the case. However, Pori Moni did not appear before the court that day.
Then, her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Surabhi, sought time on the grounds of illness.
The plea was opposed by complainant’s lawyer Abul Kalam Mohammad Sohel, who sought cancellation of Pori Moni’s bail and the issuance of an arrest warrant. During the hearing, he argued that Pori Moni had repeatedly sought adjournments by intentionally remaining absent from court, wasting the court’s valuable time.
The court later rejected her petition for time and issued an arrest warrant against her. It also set 23 December for recording testimony.
On 6 July 2022, Nasir Uddin, a director of the Dhaka Boat Club, filed a case with Savar Police Station against Pori Moni and another individual, accusing them of assault, vandalism and intimidation. The case also named Pori Moni’s associate Junaed Bogdadi Jimmy as an accused.
The trial formally began on 26 June 2025 with the framing of charges.
However, as Pori Moni failed to appear in court that day, an arrest warrant was issued against her. She later surrendered before the court on 27 June and secured bail.
Following the investigation, Md Monir Hossain, an inspector of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Dhaka district, submitted the charge sheet to the court on 18 March 2024.
According to the charge sheet, on the night of 8 June 2021, Pori Moni became enraged with Nasir Uddin after she was allegedly denied a complimentary three-litre parcel of Blue Label whisky at the Dhaka Boat Club.
The charge sheet alleged that she threw an ashtray at him, causing an injury to the area above his right ear. It also accused her of vandalising the club’s bar. The investigation report further alleged that when Nasir Uddin attempted to stop the vandalism, co-accused Junaed Bogdadi Jimmy punched him and threatened him.
The dispute between Pori Moni and Nasir Uddin began after they met at the Boat Club on the night of 8 June 2021.
A few days after the incident, Pori Moni held a press conference and alleged that she had been subjected to attempted rape and attempted murder at the boat club that night.
She filed a case over the incident on 13 June 2021, following which Nasir Uddin was arrested. He was later released on bail.
The trial over the attempted rape and attempted murder case filed by Pori Moni against Nasir Uddin is currently underway at Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
