A crude bomb was hurled at a police patrol vehicle in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in Dhaka on Thursday.
The vehicle’s driver, Constable Md Enamul, was injured in the incident, which took place near the Army Golf Club at around 7:30am.
Police said a convoy of 70 to 80 motorcycles was travelling from the Banani area towards Kuril Bishwa Road. Slogans of “Joy Bangla” were being chanted from the convoy.
As the convoy reached the area in front of the hospital, an unidentified person allegedly threw a crude bomb at the police vehicle. Police claimed the procession had been organised by a banned organisation.
Constable Enamul sustained injuries to his left eye. He was initially taken to the emergency department of Kurmitola General Hospital. Following doctors’ advice, he was later transferred to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Agargaon.
Police arrested three people along with their motorcycles while they were participating in the procession in front of the hospital.
CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas is being reviewed to identify those involved in the attack, police said.
