Pakistan debutant Razaullah made history with a stunning 81 against England in the third Test at Edgbaston on Friday.
The 21 year old smashed nine sixes in his 63 ball innings. It was the joint most sixes by a player in an innings on Test debut.
Razaullah matched the record set by former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who also hit nine sixes on his Test debut.
His nine sixes also equalled the record for the most sixes in a Test innings in England. Razaullah came to the crease with Pakistan still facing a difficult situation. They were 318 for eight and only two runs behind England.
He then changed the mood of the match with an aggressive innings. Razaullah attacked England’s bowlers from the start. He hit Gus Atkinson for three sixes in one over and later smashed Jofra Archer for two consecutive sixes.
He received support from Muhammad Abbas, who made 42. The pair added 121 runs and pushed Pakistan into a strong position.
Razaullah eventually made 81 from 63 balls before Dan Lawrence had him stumped. His innings helped Pakistan reach 449 in their second innings.
Pakistan had earlier been bowled out for only 133 in the first innings. England replied with 453 to take a huge lead.
Pakistan showed much more fight in their second innings. Shan Masood scored 95, Babar Azam made 76 and Azan Awais added 59 before Razaullah provided the late attack.
His effort left England needing 130 runs to win the Test on Saturday. England lead the three match series 2-0, but Razaullah’s record breaking innings gave Pakistan something to celebrate after a difficult tour.
