Presenter and actress Samia Afreen, who has been battling cancer for the past five years, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with the disease again.
After previously overcoming colon cancer, Samia said she has now been diagnosed with uterine cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy as part of her treatment.
Amid the ongoing treatment, Samia shared a photo of herself with a shaved head on social media. She reflected on losing her hair and learning to accept the change.
In a Facebook post shared yesterday, Samia wrote, “I never thought there would come a time in my life again when my head would be completely bald. Perhaps it happened when I was a child, when I was too young to even think about it. But as an adult, losing your hair like this for reasons beyond your control is an experience very few people probably go through.”
Rather than allowing the experience to overwhelm her, Samia said she was trying to find the strength to accept circumstances beyond her control.
“There are certain things in life that we may not like, but have to accept. Some changes are not easy for us, but we have to embrace them. And that is exactly what I am doing. I have accepted this change and this new version of myself,” she wrote.
For Samia, beauty is not limited to physical appearance. She believes it also comes from accepting oneself during difficult times.
“Whether I have hair or not, beauty is not something that can only be seen in the mirror. True beauty lies in being able to accept yourself as you are,” she wrote. “So, this look is also a story from my life — the story of a difficult time, but at the same time, a story of courage, acceptance and love for myself.”
Concluding her post, Samia wrote, “So, yes… this is me — with a shaved head and without any hesitation or insecurity about who I am. Alhamdulillah for every version of myself. Insha’Allah, this too shall pass.”
Samia had earlier revealed in a social media post on 23 August that she had been diagnosed with cancer again. She had cut her hair short at the time in anticipation of possible hair loss caused by chemotherapy and shared a photo of her new look.
She also asked her followers and well-wishers to pray for her recovery.
