A short film paying tribute to legendary Bangladeshi actor Salman Shah will be released today, 19 September, marking his birth anniversary.
Titled ‘Backdated’, the short film explores Salman Shah’s career in cinema and the immense popularity he enjoyed during his brief but memorable journey in the film industry.
Salman Shah was born on 19 September 1971. Had he been alive, he would have turned 55 this year. He died on 6 September 1996, but his popularity remains strong among audiences nearly three decades after his death.
‘Backdated’ has been directed by Sheikh Jisan Ahamed, a student of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at Jahangirnagar University.
He previously gained attention on social media by recreating stories from acclaimed films such as ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Monpura’. He also directed the short film ‘Room Number 2011’, based on the murder of Abrar Fahad.
Speaking about the Salman Shah tribute project, Jisan said the film will highlight the actor’s cinematic journey and explore the story behind his popularity during the 1990s.
“Many details about Salman Shah will be explored in this film. Although it is a short production, it will also carry a message. I hope audiences will enjoy it,” he said.
The filmmaker added that the short film was made with permission from Salman Shah’s family. Actor Faruque Ahmed plays an important role in the project, alongside students from Jahangirnagar University.
‘Backdated’ will be released today at 7pm on the Jisu Entertainment YouTube channel.
