Children’s writer Akhtar Hossain, who is undergoing treatment at Green Life Hospital in Dhaka, has been placed on life support as his condition remains critical.
A doctor on duty at the hospital told the media at around 12:15am on Friday, 18 September, that Akhtar Hossain had suffered an ischaemic stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
His son, Promito Hossain, is currently staying at the hospital with him. He said his father had been suffering from cancer for some time.
A few days ago, Akhtar Hossain was admitted to a hospital in Farmgate after his blood pressure dropped and he developed other health complications. He was later taken to BIRDEM Hospital before being transferred to Green Life Hospital.
Promito said doctors had described his father’s condition as critical. He urged everyone to pray for the writer’s recovery.
Akhtar Hossain has made significant contributions to Bengali literature over the years. He currently works as a manuscript editor at Prothoma Prokashan.
He has received several awards and honours for his literary contributions, including the Bangla Academy Award.
