University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) welcomed its Fall 2026 freshers on Thursday with a reception programme featuring cultural performances, messages on personal growth and a sustainability initiative through the distribution of seed boxes among newly admitted students.
Held on 10 September 2026 at the ULAB campus, the event brought together new students, university leadership, faculty members, officials and alumni. The programme began with a performance of the ULAB Theme Song by ULAB Sangskriti Sangsad, setting a festive tone for the newcomers’ first official day at the university.
Mr Mitchel Lee, Chargé d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, attended the event as chief guest and encouraged students to look beyond textbooks, develop critical thinking, appreciate diversity and remain open to new ideas.
He said university life is not only about academic learning but also about shaping individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society.
Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, welcomed the freshers and urged them to remain curious, creative, responsible and engaged throughout their academic journey.
A key highlight of the programme was the introduction of a seed-box initiative, under which every newly admitted student received Bakula flower seeds. The university said the initiative was designed to promote sustainability and encourage students to nurture both plants and their own personal growth.
ULAB plans to create a dedicated webpage where students can share updates and stories about planting and caring for the seeds.
Representing the new batch, Ms Marvia Fatema Bhumi shared her reflections on beginning her university journey, highlighting the excitement and aspirations of freshers.
The programme also featured remarks from Ms Sekh Shahnuma Sharmin, Manager, Brand Strategy & Digital, BYD Bangladesh and a ULAB alumna, who shared her experiences on university life, professional development and career preparation.
Professor Jude W R Genilo, PhD, Pro Vice-Chancellor, ULAB; Professor Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees and Treasurer, ULAB; and Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (Retd), Registrar, ULAB, attended the event along with faculty members and university officials.
The day concluded with a concert presented by Coke Studio Bangla featuring Emon Chowdhury and Bengal Symphony. The performance transformed the orientation into a campus-wide celebration, bringing together new students and members of the ULAB community through music and culture.
