The interim government has expressed deep concern following a violent incident in Sherpur that resulted in the death of an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami.
In a statement, it said, “Any loss of life linked to violence is unacceptable and deeply regrettable.”
The government also called upon all political parties, including BNP and Jamaat, to demonstrate responsible leadership.
With the national election only two weeks away, it urged the parties to ensure restraint among their supporters, noting that intimidation, violence, and loss of life have no place in a democratic process.
Police in Sherpur have launched an investigation into the clashes and murder, with officials vowing that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
In response to the unrest, security has been stepped up across the district to maintain law and order.
The government remains committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, and fair election. Officials stressed that the future of the nation depends on calm, discipline, and democratic conduct from all sides, the statement said.
All parties, leaders, and campaigners have been urged to play their role in maintaining peace and respecting the rule of law by engaging voters through peaceful and constructive means, it added.
