Two people have died of dengue fever and 790 new patients have been admitted to hospital across the country in the last 24 hours.
The information was disclosed on Friday in a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the press release, one death was reported in Chittagong division (outside the city corporation area) and another in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area over the last 24 hours. The deceased comprised one male and one female patient.
During the same 24-hour period, 790 new dengue patients were hospitalised nationwide. A division-wise breakdown shows that the highest number of patients, 249, were admitted in Dhaka division (outside city corporation areas).
In addition, 196 patients were admitted in Chittagong division, 73 in Mymensingh, 62 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 61 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 60 in Khulna division, 38 in Rangpur, 33 in Rajshahi, and 18 in Barisal division.
Among those hospitalised in the last 24 hours, 65.7 per cent were male and 34.3 per cent were female.
DGHS statistics show that a total of 49,220 dengue cases were recorded nationwide between 1 January and 11 September this year. Out of the overall cases, 141 people have died, whilst 45,645 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
Currently, 3,434 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the country.
Although males account for 62.4 per cent of overall detected cases compared to 37.6 per cent females, women represent a higher proportion of total fatalities at 52.1 per cent.
