Mohammad Ismail Chowdhury, professor of the Department of Arabic at Chittagong University (CU), has been appointed provost of Shahid Suhrawardy Hall for one year.
The university issued a notification on Thursday, signed by Acting Registrar Md Hasan Mia, confirming the appointment.
Ismail Chowdhury will serve as provost in addition to his regular academic duties and will receive the allowances and other benefits prescribed under university rules. His appointment took effect on Thursday.
“I will try to discharge the responsibility entrusted to me with sincerity,” Ismail Chowdhury said.
He said he would work to maintain a conducive environment at the hall and ensure transparency in seat allocation after formally taking charge.
“I have not joined yet. Once I take charge, I will work to maintain a proper environment at the hall with transparency,” he said.
Prof Md Abdul Mannan of the Department of Philosophy previously served as the provost. He was relieved of the post on 31 August following his request.
