President stresses merit in JU education, research

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for giving the highest priority to merit and competence in teacher recruitment and all other areas to improve the quality of education and research at Jahangirnagar University (JU).

He made the call on Thursday when JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting, the JU vice-chancellor briefed the President on the university’s overall progress in education, research and academic activities.

They also discussed various academic initiatives and the advancement of research programmes at the university.

President Fakhrul stressed that ensuring merit-based practices in academic and administrative areas was essential for strengthening the quality of higher education and research.

During the meeting, Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan formally invited the President, as the Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, to attend the university’s proposed convocation scheduled for April next year.

The President accepted the invitation and gave his consent to attend the convocation.
