ICMAB hosts budget dialogue amid crisis

The Dhaka Branch Council of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (IMCAB) organised a discussion session on the national budget, focusing on fiscal challenges, investment, inflation and economic resilience amid global economic uncertainty.

The programme, titled “National Budget in the Context of Global Crisis: Challenges and Way Forward”, was held at the ICMAB Ruhul Quddus Auditorium at ICMA Bhaban in Nilkhet, Dhaka, on Tuesday, the institute said in a press release.

The session aimed to facilitate discussions on the national budget and its implications for trade, business, investment and the broader macroeconomic environment against the backdrop of global economic instability and changing geopolitical conditions.

Financial Reporting Council Chairman Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan attended the programme as chief guest.

ICMAB President and Shun Shing Group Bangladesh and UAE Operations Group Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary Md Kausar Alam attended as guest of honour.

The session was moderated by ICMAB Council Member and Past President Md Mamunur Rashid, who is also Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Additional Managing Director of Index Group of Companies.

ICMAB Dhaka Branch Council Chairman and Southeast Bank Chief Financial Officer Mannan Bapari presided over the programme.

The discussion included participation from economists, policymakers, academics, corporate executives and accounting professionals.

Among the panellists were Centre for Policy Dialogue Distinguished Fellow Mustafizur Rahman, University of Dhaka Faculty of Business Studies Dean Mahmood Osman Imam, and National Board of Revenue Customs and VAT Commissioner at ICD Customs House Kamalapur Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin.

ICMAB Council Member and National Board of Revenue Additional Commissioner and First Secretary for VAT Policy Md Mashiur Rahaman presented the theme paper.

The keynote presentation and panel discussion focused on fiscal policy priorities, revenue mobilisation, investment promotion, inflation management and strategies to strengthen Bangladesh’s economic resilience against global macroeconomic pressures.

Fellow and associate members of ICMAB also took part in the open discussion session and shared professional feedback.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from ICMAB Dhaka Branch Council Member and Ministry of Finance SPFMS Office Deputy Secretary Mohammad Ruhul Quddus.
