UAE has provided humanitarian assistance to 1,500 flood-affected families in Sylhet as part of a wider relief initiative supporting communities impacted by natural disasters across Bangladesh.
Food and clothing packages were distributed among families in Osmaninagar and Bishwanath upazilas under the initiative implemented through the Foreign Aid Office of the Embassy of the UAE in Dhaka, said a press release. The broader UAE-funded programme aims to support around 10,000 families affected by natural disasters in different parts of Bangladesh.
H E Humaiun Kobir, State Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, attended the distribution programme as the chief guest. Rashed Mohammed Naser Almail Alzaabi, Director of Foreign Aid at the Embassy of the UAE in Bangladesh, was also present.
Speaking at the programme, Alzaabi said supporting people affected by disasters such as floods is a humanitarian responsibility. He said the assistance programme aims to help address some of the immediate needs of affected families and stand beside them during difficult times.
The recent floods have affected lives and livelihoods across Sylhet and other parts of Bangladesh, damaging homes and restricting access to essential supplies. The relief initiative seeks to support affected communities by providing immediate assistance and easing the difficulties caused by the disaster.
The UAE said the humanitarian support reflects the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and the UAE and reaffirms its commitment to assisting the people of Bangladesh during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
