Urmi Group has received four recognitions at the ESG Excellence Awards 2026 for its initiatives in workplace inclusion, gender equity, sustainability reporting and climate action, reinforcing the company’s focus on environmental, social and governance priorities.
The awards were presented by Abdul Awal Mintoo, Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), at a ceremony attended by Sweden Ambassador H E Nicolas Weeks, Denmark Ambassador H E Christian Brix Møller, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh H E Michael Miller, Nuzhat Anwar, Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange, and other distinguished guests.
Urmi Group was named Gold Winner in the “Excellence in Accessibility & Inclusive Workplace Design” (B-11) category for its efforts to develop a more accessible and inclusive workplace. The Group also received recognition in “Excellence in Gender Equity & Women Leadership Advancement” (B-12) and “Excellence in ESG & Sustainability Reporting” (B-16), highlighting its focus on women’s participation, leadership development and transparency in sustainability practices.
In an individual achievement, Shamarukh Fakhruddin, Director of Urmi Group, was named Gold Winner in the “Excellence in Championing Climate Action” (B-20) category for her contribution to advancing climate action and strengthening sustainability as a strategic priority.
The awards were received by Ashfaque Ahmed, Chairman of Urmi Group, along with Biplob Barua, GM, Strategic HR; Md Shahnewaz Khan, GM, Operational HR; and A B M Faqrul Alam, Head of Sustainability.
Commenting on the achievement, Managing Director of Urmi Group Asif Ashraf said in a statement that the recognitions reflected the collective commitment of the organisation’s people and its progress across different ESG areas.
“These recognitions reflect the collective commitment of our people and the progress we continue to make across different dimensions of ESG. Building an inclusive workplace, advancing gender equity, strengthening sustainability reporting and responding meaningfully to climate challenges are interconnected priorities for us. This recognition encourages us to continue raising our standards and creating long-term impact,” he said.
The ESG Excellence Awards 2026 was organised by the ESG Institute in collaboration with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and held at Lakeshore, Dhaka. The initiative, jointly organised by the UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh and the ESG Institute Bangladesh, is the first of its kind in Bangladesh to recognise organisations and individuals demonstrating leadership and practices across environmental, social and governance priorities.
Urmi Group said the four recognitions reflect its continued commitment to integrating ESG principles into its operations while building a more inclusive, sustainable and responsible business.
