Controversial singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel was granted bail on Tuesday (February 24), a day after being arrested on charges of embezzling money and threatening to spread objectionable images and videos of a young woman on social media. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed approved the bail on the condition of compromise.
Nobel was arrested on Monday by police from the Battala area under Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj. The case stems from a complaint filed on August 13 last year at the CMM Court in Dhaka, in which the plaintiff, Ananiya Shabnam Rose, accused Nobel of deceiving her with the promise of marriage and embezzling approximately Tk13 lakh. The court subsequently instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the allegations.
After submitting their report on January 7, the PBI confirmed that the allegations were valid. The investigation revealed that Nobel had received assistance from others, including his wife Israt Jahan Priya, his mother Nazma Hossain, assistant Munem Shah Soumik, and acquaintance Masud Rana. Following the report, the court issued an arrest warrant against Nobel and five others on February 2.
After being released on bail, Nobel addressed the media, admitting his mistakes but speaking in a characteristically unconventional manner. He said, “Only people make mistakes. This time it happened. It can happen again. My viewers and listeners understand me well. They will forgive me. I am a little crazy, mistakes can happen again.”
During the court proceedings, Nobel reportedly sang songs within the court premises, drawing attention once more to the singer known for his controversial public persona.
