Actor Hina Khan, who has been battling stage three breast cancer since last year, has spoken out about the taboos surrounding artists in the entertainment industry who are fighting cancer.
In a recent conversation with ANI, the actor highlighted the importance of mental health and family support in dealing with the disease.
Hina said people diagnosed with cancer should not feel pressured to stop working. She said, “This taboo that a cancer patient has to sit at home and do nothing, and that their life is over, is not true. A few days are difficult, but after that, you can get back to work. You should have that will, that strength and the love of your family.”
The actor added that she has no plans to quit acting as long as her health allows. “I will always keep doing this, provided my body supports me. Your mental strength is the most important thing. Therefore, you must be mentally strong and remain happy. If you think this is nothing, it becomes nothing,” she said.
Hina had revealed her diagnosis in June last year through an Instagram post, writing that she had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. “Despite this challenging diagnosis, I wish to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease,” she wrote. She also thanked her fans for their love and requested privacy, adding that with the grace of the Almighty, she and her family remain positive about her recovery.
Hina gained fame for her role in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and later as Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She has also appeared in Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 and Bigg Boss 11, and was most recently seen in the web series Griha Laxmi, which she completed filming before her diagnosis. She recently married her longtime boyfriend, Rocky Jaiswal.
