A follow-up to the widely acclaimed 2009 film ‘3 Idiots’ is officially in the works, with actor Aamir Khan confirming that early development has begun. Director Rajkumar Hirani alongside writer Abhijat Joshi are currently developing the screenplay.
According to Aamir Khan, the new instalment will revisit the story several years after the events of the original, bringing back the much-loved characters Rancho, Farhan and Raju.
The actor indicated that the narrative aims to retain the spirit that made the first film a cultural phenomenon, combining humour with emotional depth.
Speaking about the script, Aamir noted that while it is still being refined, the core idea is strong and distinctive. He also expressed eagerness to return to one of his most memorable roles.
The sequel is expected to reunite much of the original cast, with Kareena Kapoor Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi likely to reprise their roles.
The sequel to 3 Idiots will be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
