Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Abdur Rahman Khan on Wednesday said Bangladesh’s economic growth is closely linked with the success of its business community. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a more enabling environment for private sector expansion.
He said ongoing budget measures will focus on rationalising tariffs and taxes to improve the competitiveness of local industries.
The NBR chairman made the remarks while speaking at the 46th meeting of the consultative committee between the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and FBCCI, held at a hotel in the capital.
He said improving the ease of doing business remains a key priority. He acknowledged that excessive regulations continue to create challenges for businesses.
Abdur Rahman Khan said the revenue authority is working to identify and remove specific regulatory barriers that hinder business operations.
“We will address each issue individually to ensure regulations do not become obstacles,” he said.
He also emphasised the need to simplify revenue compliance, especially for new entrepreneurs, adding that tax procedures should not become a burden for those entering the market.
The NBR chief stressed the importance of removing disparities within the economic system. He said the NBR will carefully consider proposals and feedback from the business community to develop effective policy solutions.
He also called for stronger collaboration between the revenue authority and the private sector to ensure sustainable economic growth.
