The BNP government will take all necessary measures to ensure that the upcoming local government elections are free, fair and impartial, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam.

He also said, “The prime minister has also given instructions in this regard. The BNP will not take any blame over the elections.”

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Circuit House in Kurigram on Wednesday at the start of his one-day visit to the district.

The local government polls are scheduled to begin in January 2027 and be completed by June 6. State Minister Shahe Alam said, “Those who intend to participate in the elections can start preparing mentally.”

Regarding the opposition party, he said, “The opposition will blame the government for anything. Whether it is right or wrong, that is the beauty of democracy. The people will judge where we have failed. The government is highly alert about the law and order situation. We are closely monitoring the situation.”

On the energy crisis, he said, “The government has short-, medium- and long-term plans to address the gas and electricity crisis. The situation has already improved to some extent. We need to be given some more time to find a solution to the problem.”
