Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has called upon police personnel to deliver services to the public with professionalism, humanity, and a service-oriented mindset.
He made the call as the chief guest while inaugurating a two-day workshop titled “Formulation of Community Policing Policy” at the Multipurpose Hall of Police Staff College Bangladesh in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Wednesday morning.
Police Staff College Bangladesh Rector (Additional IGP) Kazi Md Fazlul Karim presided over the inauguration ceremony.
Describing the workshop initiative as highly positive and timely, the IGP said the core foundation of people-oriented policing lies in gaining public trust and converting that trust into an effective partnership.
He highlighted that community and beat policing can play a vital role in preventing crime and building a safe society through regular communication and mutual co-operation with citizens.
The IGP placed special emphasis on countering youth gangs and properly executing anti-drug operations through community policing initiatives.
Highlighting sports as an effective outreach tool, he noted that the “1st Community Policing Kabaddi Tournament-2026” has created nationwide enthusiasm by scouting talented young players from remote areas to assemble a national kabaddi team.
He added that kabaddi is the national sport and a source of pride for Bangladesh, enabling the force to connect with people from all walks of life.
Reaffirming the commitment of Bangladesh Police, the IGP said the force is dedicated to serving the public with honesty, fairness, and mutual respect.
Addressing police members, he stressed the need to strengthen public partnerships and earn mutual trust to build peaceful and tolerant communities.
During the event, Fazlul presented the keynote paper titled “Restructuring Community and Beat Policing in Bangladesh: Towards a People-Centred, Preventive and Intelligence-Led Policing Framework.”
In his presentation, the rector stressed making community and beat policing more preventive, accountable, intelligence-led, and public-engaging by building on existing achievements and field experiences.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman and Vice-Rector Md Abdus Sobhan participated as discussants on the keynote paper, highlighting practical aspects to enhance the effectiveness of community and beat policing.
Community Affairs Officers and relevant police officials from across Bangladesh Police are participating in the workshop.
A pragmatic and actionable set of recommendations will be formulated from the workshop by integrating field-level experiences, views, and suggestions to effectively institutionalise community and beat policing within Bangladesh Police.
