A local leader of Jubo Dal was hacked to death by miscreants in Chhatrakhil area on the north bank of Gomti River in Cumilla city on Friday.
The deceased, Kawsar, was a leader of Ward No. 4 Jubo Dal of Cumilla city and the younger brother of local leader Kabir.
According to local sources, miscreants launched a sudden attack on Kawsar while he was present in Chhatrakhil area on Friday. He was indiscriminately hacked with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Locals subsequently rescued him and rushed him to Cumilla Trauma Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Following the news of the murder, grief and tension spread across the area.
However, the reason for the killing and the identities of those involved could not immediately be confirmed.
Cumilla Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfor Rahman said the police are investigating the cause of the murder and conducting drives to arrest those accused.
