Arifin Shuvoo has made a strong impression in India with his debut on the OTT platform Sony Liv. His new web series, ‘Jazz City’, has been trending across India since its release on March 19 and reached the top of the charts by March 23, marking a striking start to his international career.
The 10-episode series, running approximately eight hours in total, features Shuvoo in the lead role of Jimmy Roy. Displaying his versatility, he performs in Bangla, Hindi, Urdu and English, making Jazz City the platform’s first series to release simultaneously in multiple languages including Bengali.
Directed and scripted by Soumik Sen, co-creator of the acclaimed Jubilee series, the show also stars Souraseni Mitra alongside Arifin, with supporting performances from Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sen, Shreya Bhattacharya, Shatoff Figure, Alexandra Taylor and Amit Saha.
Set against the backdrop of Bangladesh’s Liberation War and the socio-political turbulence of the 1970s, Jazz City explores the complexities of the era through Jimmy Roy’s experiences. Critics and viewers alike have praised Shuvoo’s performance, highlighting his ability to convey nuanced emotion across multiple languages.
