The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has decided to operate virtual courts in the High Court Division two days a week in a bid to conserve fuel and electricity amid the ongoing global economic situation.

The decision was taken in accordance with the Information and Communication Technology Use in Courts Act, 2020 (Act No. 11 of 2020) and the practice directions issued by the court, according to a High Court Division notification signed by Registrar Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob.

According to the notice, all bench officers serving in single benches of the High Court Division, along with at least one bench officer from each division bench, have been instructed to collect Zoom IDs and passwords by April 20, 2026.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing judicial efficiency while reducing operational costs linked to physical hearings, the notification added.
