A Dhaka court has fixed Thursday for hearing on the acceptance of the charge sheet in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The date was set on Monday by the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam.
The court also appointed three lawyers to assist the state in conducting the case.
They are senior lawyer Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, Barrister S M Moinul Karim, and Assistant Attorney General Mustafizur Rahman Mukul.
On the day, the complainant, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, along with Fatema Tasnim Jhuma and JnUCSU leader Shanta Akter, among others, appeared before the court.
Abdullah Al Jaber expressed consent to the applications submitted by the state-appointed lawyers.
The lawyers sought two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, to review the charge sheet and said they would decide on Thursday whether to accept it or file objections.
The court accepted the request and granted the two-day period.
After the hearing, the lawyers told journalists that Osman Hadi used to say, “I want justice even for my enemy,” adding that they want to study the charge sheet thoroughly so that no innocent person is punished.
They said nine of the 17 arrested accused have given confessional statements so far.
Earlier, on 6 January, the investigation officer, Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed Faisal, submitted the charge sheet against 17 accused, including Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul Daud.
On 7 January, Judge Jashita Islam signed the charge sheet, marking it as “seen,” and later directed the complainant to appear before the court on 12 January to state whether there were any objections.
On 12 December, Dhaka-8 hopeful Hadi was attacked while visiting the Bijoynagar area for public outreach. The assailant, seated on the back of a moving motorcycle, shot Hadi, who was travelling on an auto-rickshaw. The bullet struck him in the head.
After receiving initial treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he was taken to Evercare Hospital and later flown to Singapore on 15 December for advanced treatment.
He died on the night of 18 December while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
