‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ (GTA 6) is shaping up to be the most expensive video game ever made, with recent documents revealing that Rockstar Games has spent over $2.1 billion on salaries since 2019. Total production costs, including wages, development and marketing, are expected to exceed $3 billion when the game launches this November.
Pre-production for GTA VI reportedly began in 2018 following ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’, with full development starting in 2020. The figures surpass previous high-budget games, including ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’ and Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption 2, whose costs ranged between $370 million and $540 million.
While the official price for players has not yet been announced, industry observers suggest the escalating development costs could influence the retail price. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the franchise, which comes more than a decade after Grand Theft Auto V.
GTA VI promises to combine Rockstar’s signature open-world gameplay with cutting-edge graphics and expansive content, making it one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year.
