The government has constituted a 15-member ad-hoc committee to oversee the Bangladesh Bar Council for a one-year term, with the Attorney General serving as its ex-officio chairman.
The committee will remain in office from 1 July this year to 30 June next year, according to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and signed by Law Secretary Liaquat Ali Molla.
The notification said the ad-hoc Bar Council has been constituted under Section 4(2) of the Bangladesh Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Order, 1972.
The other members are Zainul Abedin, Md Badruddoza Badal, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Jasim Uddin Sarkar, AHM Mushfiqur Rahman Tuhin, Ragib Rauf Chowdhury, Nasir Uddin Asim, Sarkar Tahmina Begum Sandhya, Mohammad Hossain Lipu, Mohammad Shishir Manir, Md Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, Ali Asgar, Syed Nazrul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Milon.
According to the notification, the 14 appointed members include lawyers associated with the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
