The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has strengthened its international academic presence by securing 14 new institutional agreements at a global higher education summit in Jakarta, according to a press release, marking a significant step in its overseas engagement strategy.
The university was the only exhibitor from Bangladesh at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, organised by Times Higher Education at the Indonesia Convention Centre in Jakarta from 22–25 June, where it showcased its academic, sustainability and research achievements while engaging with global stakeholders on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
AIUB said in a press release that the delegation was led by Ishtiaque Abedin, founder member of the Board of Trustees; Shania Abedin, member of the Board of Trustees; Prof Dr Dip Nandi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; and Carlin Noelle Lamagna, Deputy Director of the Office of Planning and Development.
The congress brought together universities, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and sustainability advocates from across the world to discuss higher education’s role in advancing global development goals.
During the event, AIUB signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with 14 universities across Indonesia and the Philippines, including Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Quezon City University. The agreements cover student and faculty mobility, joint research, academic exchange, curriculum development and broader international cooperation.
The university also held discussions with City University of Macau on a potential student exchange programme expected to launch in January 2027, while exploratory talks were initiated with Nanyang Technological University and Hanyang University on future collaboration.
AIUB delegates also took part in academic sessions at the congress. Prof Dr Dip Nandi and Carlin Noelle Lamagna attended a masterclass titled “From Rankings to Ratings? The Evolution of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings Methodology”.
Prof Dr Dip Nandi additionally joined a panel discussion on “Lifelong Learning as a Catalyst for Educational Excellence and Social Impact”, focusing on flexible learning systems, workforce transformation and digital change in higher education.
Taken together, AIUB’s participation highlights its ongoing internationalisation efforts and growing engagement in global academic networks, the press release said.
