Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday inaugurated a three‑month nationwide campaign to prevent dengue and promote cleanliness as the country enters peak season.
The “Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign‑2026” was launched around 9:30am at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, jointly organised by the Local Government Ministry, Dhaka North and South City Corporations.
The campaign carries the slogans “Keep your surroundings clean, let us all stay healthy” and “Remove stagnant water every day.”
Around 25,000 volunteers and workers including city corporation cleaners, BNCC, Scouts, Girl Guides, Red Crescent members and students joined the inaugural programme. Cabinet members, MPs, secretaries and senior officials attended, while representatives from all 64 districts joined virtually.
The campaign will run from 12 September to 12 December, with activities coordinated at city, divisional, district and upazila levels. City corporations will lead in metropolitan areas, deputy commissioners at district level, and UNOs at upazila level.
Volunteers from disaster management agencies, Scouts, BNCC, Girl Guides, Red Crescent and students will take part in awareness and cleanliness drives.
Speakers included Local Government Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan, Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Husain, Information Minister Andaleeve Rahman, State Ministers MA Muhit and Mir Shahe Alam, Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque and DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam.
The campaign follows rising dengue prevalence in Dhaka and other regions and was launched on the prime minister’s directive after a recent meeting at the Secretariat.
