Public transport services across inter-district and long-distance routes in Bangladesh began operating under a revised fare structure Sunday.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) released the updated fare schedules on Saturday, which also include recalculated rates for metropolitan routes within Dhaka and Chattogram. To assist passengers, every vehicle is required to display the updated fare charts.
The adjustment in fares follows the government’s decision on 18 April to increase the prices of fuel in response to rising costs in the global market. Under the new pricing, the cost of diesel rose from Tk100 to Tk115 per litre, while kerosene increased from Tk112 to Tk130.
Furthermore, octane was raised from Tk120 to Tk140 per litre, and petrol moved from Tk116 to Tk135.
Gabtoli route adjustments
From the Gabtoli terminal in Dhaka, the fare to Panchagarh has been set at Tk1,005 for 51-seater buses and Tk1,281 for 40-seater buses. Passengers travelling to Rangpur will now pay Tk751 for 51-seater and Tk911 for 40-seater vehicles, while the Dinajpur route is priced at Tk974 and Tk1,241 respectively.
Other Gabtoli routes include Rajshahi, where fares are Tk777 (51-seater) and Tk991 (40-seater), and Meherpur, which stands at Tk776 and Tk981. The fare to Jhenaidah has been fixed at Tk501 for 51-seater buses and Tk639 for 40-seater buses.
Sayedabad Route Adjustments
On the Sayedabad routes, the fare to Chattogram is now Tk704 for 51-seater buses and Tk552 for 40-seater buses. Travel to Cox’s Bazar will cost Tk900 for a 51-seater and Tk1,147 for a 40-seater.
For the Sylhet route, fares are Tk580 and Tk740, while Barishal is set at Tk464 and Tk592.
The fare to Khulna is now Tk541 for 51-seater buses and Tk690 for 40-seater buses. The longest route from this terminal, Teknaf, has seen its fares rise to Tk1,047 for 51-seaters and Tk1,335 for 40-seaters.
Mohakhali Route Adjustments
Under the Mohakhali terminal routes, fares to Mymensingh are now Tk294 for 51-seater buses and Tk375 for 40-seater buses. The Jamalpur route is priced at Tk386 and Tk492, while Sherpur stands at Tk421 and Tk537.
Finally, travel to Kishoreganj will cost passengers Tk401 for a 51-seater and Tk511 for a 40-seater bus.
