The government has increased fares for long‑distance and inter‑district buses and minibuses. Under the new decision, fares will rise by 11 paisa per kilometre.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam announced the decision on Thursday after a meeting with transport workers and owners at the Secretariat.
He said the new rates take effect immediately.
In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, bus and minibus fares have been raised from Tk2.42 to Tk2.53 per km. On long‑distance routes, fares have gone up from Tk2.12 to Tk2.23 per km.
The minister clarified that the hike applies only to diesel‑run buses, while CNG‑run buses are excluded. He added that fares will be reduced again if fuel prices fall.
No decision has yet been taken on raising fares for rail or water transport.
Earlier on 18 April, the government increased fuel prices — diesel up Tk15 per litre, octane Tk20, petrol Tk19 and kerosene Tk18. The new fuel prices took effect from 19 April midnight.
