Rumeen Farhana, independent lawmaker for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, has requested that her name be included as the primary accused if any case is filed regarding an altercation with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station in Brahmanbaria.
On Saturday, her personal assistant, Zakir Hossain, provided her written statement to journalists. Rumeen issued the statement following reports that police had lodged a General Diary (GD) over the altercation with OC Monjur Kader Bhuiyan.
In the written statement, Rumeen disclosed that a written complaint against the OC of Sarail Police Station was submitted to the District Superintendent of Police on 23 October.
She noted that, out of respect for the administration, she is waiting to see what departmental action is taken against the OC. She added that if the administration fails to take appropriate measures, she will announce her subsequent programmes.
Earlier on Thursday night, an altercation broke out between Rumeen and the OC inside the Sarail Police Station building over allegations of irregularities and corruption against the OC, as well as the absence of police security during visits to Durga Puja mandaps.
Furthermore, an individual accompanying Rumeen alleged that the OC had taken a bribe of 30,000 taka from him. The OC denied the bribery allegation, claiming that Rumeen Farhana had tutored the individual and brought him to the police station.
During the exchange, Rumeen told OC Monjur Kader Bhuiyan: “You were a big Awami League supporter. I know your history, Sir. Anyway, I have no headache about that.”
