The Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Bangladesh Supreme Court disposed of 177 cases and heard 707 cases on the first day of virtual court operations.
On Wednesday, the Appellate Division, including the Chamber Judge Court, heard 95 cases and disposed of 21 cases through hearings conducted via virtual attendance using information technology. The High Court Division heard 612 cases and disposed of 156 cases on the same day.
Supreme Court spokesperson Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the information on Thursday.
He said “The daily cause list of cases suitable for virtual hearing and the virtual meeting ID are published on the Supreme Court website for both divisions, including the Chamber Judge Court.”
“In total, 707 cases were heard and 177 cases were disposed of across both divisions” he added.
The Supreme Court earlier decided to conduct hearings through virtual attendance every Wednesday and Thursday in both divisions, including the Chamber Judge Court, until further notice.
The decision follows the Information and Communication Technology Act 2020 and the Supreme Court’s practice directions.
The step has been taken to save energy and reduce government expenditure amid the ongoing global economic situation.
