Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian goods worth Tk4,13,430 during a special anti-smuggling drive along the Satkhira border on Thursday.
The goods were recovered from several border areas under the Bhomra, Ghona, Kushkhali and Kakdanga Border Outposts (BOPs) in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazilas.
The seized items included Indian liquor, mobile phone parts, aluminium shells, medicines, cumin seeds, sugar and leaf bidis (patar biri).
According to BGB officials, a special operational team from Bhomra BOP, acting on secret information, recovered Indian aluminium shells and leaf bidis from the Phalmor area in Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
In separate operations in the same upazila, a team from Ghona BOP seized mobile phone parts and medicines from the Datbhanga area, while a Kushkhali BOP team recovered mobile phone parts from Amtala.
Meanwhile, two separate teams from Kakdanga BOP recovered Indian liquor, cumin seeds and sugar from the Keragachi and Bhadiyali areas in Kalaroa Upazila.
BGB personnel could not arrest any smugglers during the operations as the individuals fled the scenes after sensing the presence of border guards, leaving the contraband items behind.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion, confirmed the seizures.
He said the seized goods were handed over to Satkhira Customs.
He added that a general diary was filed with the Satkhira Department of Narcotics Control regarding the seized narcotics, which have been kept at the BGB store for eventual public destruction.
