Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested Rezaul Karim Pramanik, alias Bagha, the prime accused in the murder case of onion merchant Abdul Aziz, 55, in Santhia, Pabna, from Narsingdi.
Simultaneously, three individuals were arrested along with a foreign pistol and ammunition from Labanchara area of Khulna metropolis.
Director of the SRB Legal and Media Wing, Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, disclosed these details during an exchange of views with journalists at SRB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar in the capital on Friday.
According to the SRB, the main planner and chief accused, Rezaul Karim Pramanik, alias Bagha, was in hiding by frequently changing his location.
Subsequently, using information technology, a joint operational team from SRB-11 and SRB-12 conducted a drive in Madhabdi area of Narsingdi and arrested him.
During initial interrogation, Rezaul claimed to be a leader of the banned “Sarbahara” group. He revealed that four individuals jointly planned the murder out of greed for just Tk25,000, based on information that the victim, Abdul Aziz, always carried money with him.
Meanwhile, acting on secret information, a special team from SRB-6 conducted a drive in the Labanchara area of Khulna at around 6:15pm on 17 September.
During the raid, Md Dalim Khan, Md Rana, and Abdullah Al Noman, alias Nayan, were arrested alongside a foreign pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and three rounds of lead bullets.
A review of arrested Dalim Khan’s PC-PR revealed that seven cases, including charges related to arms and violence, are registered against him at Labanchara Police Station.
The SRB said its operations will continue to maintain normal law and order, ensure the safety of citizens, and bring offenders to justice.
