Popular actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu underwent open-heart surgery following a cardiac attack and is now recovering at a private hospital in the capital.
Theatre director and organiser Kamruzzaman Sagar confirmed the development in a Facebook post, where he shared details about the actor’s condition.
Sagar said Babu was first admitted to Popular Hospital on February 16 after suffering a heart attack. Doctors later transferred him to United Hospital, where an angiogram detected major blockages in his heart.
“With deep sorrow, I inform you that the distinguished actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu has fallen ill and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. On the 16th, he was admitted to Popular Hospital following a cardiac attack. Later, at United Hospital, an angiogram revealed major blockages in his heart, and on the 19th, he successfully underwent open-heart surgery,” Sagar wrote.
“By the grace of Allah, Babu bhai is now better than before. Please pray wholeheartedly for his speedy recovery so that he can return to us soon. Get well soon, dear Babu bhai,” he added.
Sources close to the family said the surgery was successful. The veteran performer is now under close medical supervision during his post-operative recovery.
Fazlur Rahman Babu is one of Bangladesh’s most respected character actors, known for his powerful performances across film, television and stage. Emerging from the country’s vibrant theatre movement, he built a strong reputation for his nuanced portrayals of complex rural and urban characters.
On the big screen, Babu has delivered memorable performances in films such as Monpura, Gohine Shobdo, Nonajoler Kabbo, Meyeti Ekhon Kothay Jabe, Fagun Haway, Bishwoshundori and more, earning critical acclaim for his versatility and emotional depth. His work has garnered several national and international accolades, including the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Beyond acting, audiences also admire Babu for his singing, particularly his folk-based and playback songs, including the much-acclaimed version of ‘Nithua Pathare,’ which further increased and cemented his popularity.
