Bashundhara Kings kept their hopes of progressing from the group stage alive with a commanding 5–0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Arambagh Krira Sangha in the Federation Cup.
At the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla on Tuesday, the defending champions displayed clinical attacking football, led by Faisal Ahmed Fahim and Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento. Their performance removed any lingering fears of a group-stage exit after two consecutive defeats.
Police FC also claimed a narrow 2–1 win against Fortis FC in the other ‘B’ group match. After three games, Police FC sit atop the table with six points, while Kings, Fortis, and Mohammedan all have five points. Arambagh remain bottom, having lost all three matches. The top two teams in the group will advance to the next stage of the competition.
The match was one-sided from the outset. In the 16th minute, Fahim’s diagonal cross found Dorielton, whose angled header opened the scoring. Six minutes later, Rakib Hossain’s cross from the right reached Fahim at the far post, who doubled the lead with a precise finish. This set Kings on course for their first win of the tournament.
In the 52nd minute, Sad Uddin’s through pass bypassed Arambagh’s offside trap, allowing Emmanuel Sunday to run into the box and slot the ball past goalkeeper Azaad Hossain. Dorielton added his second from a low cross by Fahim in the 55th minute. Fahim had a headed goal ruled out for offside in the 62nd minute, before Sohail Rana completed the scoring with a brilliant angled finish four minutes later, sealing the 5–0 victory.
