At least eight people were injured, including two who sustained burn wounds, following an oven explosion at a restaurant in the capital’s Wari area on Friday night.
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Friday at the restaurant located on the third floor of a building beside a Bata showroom in the Ranking Street Lane area of Wari.
Fire Service Headquarters control room duty officer Rashed Bin Khaled said the fire spread from a gas cylinder and triggered an explosion in the oven inside the restaurant.
He said two units of the Fire Service rushed to the spot after receiving the information and brought the fire under control around 11:00 pm, adding that the exact cause would be confirmed after an investigation.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge Md Faruk said the injured were Jasim, 28, Kamrul, 32, Mostafa, 27, Shah Alam, 30, Yusuf, 21, Mehedi, 30, Abir, 24, and Sourav, 25.
Among them, two received treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the others were treated at the emergency department.
Wari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mofizur Rahman said preliminary information suggested the fire broke out due to an oven explosion at the Pasta Club restaurant.
He said several people were injured in the incident but none were in critical condition, adding that two suffered minor burns and all received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
