A cocktail explosion occurred at the Ansar Battalion compound in Gopalganj after miscreants hurled an explosive device and fled the area.
The incident took place around 10:00 pm on Friday in an open space between the dining building and the model building inside the headquarters of Ansar Battalion (2BN) in the Bedgram area of Gopalganj sadar upazila.
Police and local sources said several unidentified individuals threw the cocktail and left immediately after the explosion.
The exploded device was wrapped in black insulating tape and placed inside a zarda container.
The loud blast triggered panic in the area, although no casualties or damage were reported.
Following the incident, intelligence surveillance in the area has been strengthened.
Miscreants have carried out cocktail explosions at three locations in Gopalganj over the past five days.
Taskin Ara, the officer in charge at the Gopalganj Bedgram Ansar Battalion headquarters, said there was no damage from the explosion and the authorities were not overly concerned, but the incident would be investigated as repeated explosions could create public panic.
Earlier, a cocktail exploded at the main gate of Gopalganj Science and Technology University on January 26 and another blast occurred on January 28 at the residence of a district and sessions court judge.
Additional security measures have been put in place in the affected areas since then, while joint forces have set up checkpoints and are conducting searches at various locations across Gopalganj.
