Popular Deepto TV drama Bakulpur is returning with its third season, bringing a new story, new characters and a new director after a two-year gap.
The rural drama has completed two seasons so far. The first ended after 264 episodes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The second season began in 2022 and concluded in 2024 after 788 episodes.
Both seasons were set in a rural backdrop and centred on the long-running rivalry between the Talukdar and Mondal families of Bakulpur village. Their conflicts, feuds and village politics kept viewers engaged throughout the series.
Kaiser Ahmed directed the first two seasons. For the third season, Hasan Rezaul takes over as director. However, Ahmed Shahabuddin returns as the writer, as he did in the previous seasons.
The story is also taking a new direction. According to the director, the third season will not continue the previous storyline. Instead, Bakulpur will return with a fresh story and new characters. However, many actors from the first two seasons will reprise their roles in the new season.
Hasan Rezaul said, “Like the first two seasons of Bakulpur, this one is also set in a village. Kaiser bhai made Bakulpur in his own way, and the audience accepted it warmly. When I joined the project, I thought, why shouldn’t I make it in my own way? The new story will explore love, family crises and village politics. Jatra pala is also being introduced. The people of this village are very fond of jatra, so different aspects of the traditional theatre will naturally become part of the story.”
Hasan Rezaul believes the conflicts surrounding jatra pala, along with the feuds within the village, will make the new season even more engaging.
Azizul Hakim, Deepa Khondkar, Tahmina Sultana Mou, Sharaf Ahmed Jibon, Sushama Sarker, Saidur Rahman Pavel, Upoma, Silvia, Mostafiz Shaheen, Ahmed Gias and Pankaj Majumdar are among those appearing in different roles.
The first shooting lot of Bakulpur Season 3 has already been completed. Post-production is now underway. The new season will soon begin airing on Deepto TV.
Asked how many episodes the third season will have, Hasan Rezaul said there is no fixed plan yet. “As long as people like and accept the drama, we will continue it. When we feel it is time to end it, we will end it. We will not artificially increase the number of episodes,” he said.
