The Leo Club of Jahangirnagar University One Plus organised a programme titled “Trees in Exchange for Plastic” at Bottala on the university campus on Saturday to curb plastic pollution and foster eco-friendly practices on campus.
Tree saplings were distributed in exchange for collected plastic to create awareness among students and the general public regarding the harmful impacts of plastic and to spread a message advocating the reduction of plastic usage.
The organisers said that highlighting the necessity of taking effective personal-level initiatives to reduce environmental pollution was one of the key goals of the programme. Members of the club, volunteers, and other participants spontaneously joined the event.
Speaking about the programme, Leo Club of Jahangirnagar University One Plus President AM Rafidullah said that plastic pollution has become a major threat to the environment. He noted that even small-scale initiatives can play a role in building environmental awareness.
He added that alongside collecting plastic, distributing saplings was an attempt to highlight personal responsibility in protecting the environment, while expressing determination to continue similar activities for environmental and social welfare in the future.
The club authority expressed gratitude to Lions Adviser and Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-19 constituency, Dewan Mohammod Salahuddin, and Campus Adviser Prof Khondakar Lutful Elahi for their guidance and cooperation in implementing the programme.
Additionally, Club President AM Rafidullah and General Secretary Lima Khatun were thanked for their contributions to the management and leadership of the event.
Expressing appreciation for the cooperation of members, volunteers, and participants, the organisers expressed hope of building a clean, green, and sustainable campus by converting small environmental protection efforts into regular activities.
