Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) Gazipur has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesia’s PPNS to expand cooperation in education, research and community service, aiming to strengthen human resource development in science and engineering technology.
The MoU was signed on Sunday 1 February at DUET’s meeting room, the university said.
DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Zainal Abedin and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Arefin Kawsar were present at the ceremony.
The vice-chancellor said the agreement marked a milestone in knowledge exchange, research collaboration and technological linkage between the two institutions. He said the partnership would open a new chapter in academic and cultural cooperation, enhancing opportunities for academic exchange, joint research and global exposure for students, and helping make the education system more modern, job-oriented and internationally competitive.
He said DUET’s objective was to produce skilled human resources capable of addressing the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution while preparing for the Fifth Industrial Revolution. The MoU with PPNS, he added, was another step towards that goal and would help build a lasting foundation of cooperation between Bangladesh and Indonesia in education, research and innovation.
The vice-chancellor said the partnership would go beyond student and faculty exchange programmes and would evolve into a broader collaboration based on shared intellect, creativity and technological excellence. He said the cooperation could play a meaningful role in building an innovative and sustainable Bangladesh.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Arefin Kawsar said the joint initiative would further strengthen higher education, research and industry-academia collaboration at DUET and contribute to the development of skilled human resources. He said the agreement was expected to expand knowledge and experience sharing between students and teachers of the two countries and open avenues for internationally standard research.
In the presence of the vice-chancellor, the MoU was signed on behalf of DUET by Registrar additional charge Professor Moha Abu Taiyab. On behalf of PPNS, the agreement was signed by Director Rachmad Tri Selistijino ST MT. Also present from PPNS was Professor Anis Mustaghfirin ST MT, Head of the Sustainable Energy Engineering Technology Programme.
Others attending the event included Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Professor Md Anwar Hossain, Head of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Professor Hasan Mohammad Mostafa Afroz, Director Research and Extension Professor Md Anwarul Abedin, along with other teachers and officials.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will cooperate in education and training, joint research and publications, organisation of international conferences, social responsibility and community service activities, faculty and student exchange programmes, shared use of laboratories and workshops, and capacity-building initiatives.
PPNS, formally known as Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya, is a state polytechnic institution under Indonesia’s Ministry of Education Culture Research and Technology. Based in Surabaya city in Java province, the institution is known for providing specialised education and training in shipbuilding, marine technology and related engineering disciplines.
