United International University (UIU) has inaugurated a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Lab and launched a training course on industrial automation to equip students with practical skills for emerging technology-driven industries.
The Power & Energy Training Academy (PETA) under the university’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) launched the course titled “Mastering PLC & Industrial Automation with SCADA and HMI” at the UIU campus on Sunday, aiming to prepare graduates for careers in industrial automation and meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), said a press release.
UIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia attended the inauguration as the chief guest, while EEE Department Professor Dr Md Fayyaz Khan was the guest of honour.
Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia said students should develop practical and industry-oriented skills alongside academic knowledge, highlighting the growing importance of automation, smart technologies and modern industrial systems.
EEE Department Professor Dr Md Fayyaz Khan said the demand for skilled professionals in PLC and industrial automation is rising, adding that industry-focused training can help bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace requirements.
EEE Professor Dr Siddique Md Lutful Kabir and Professor Dr Raqibul Mostafa were present at the event, while EEE Associate Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator Dr Sadid Muneer presided over the programme.
Speakers at the event discussed the growing use of PLC technology in modern industries, saying automation is improving efficiency, reliability, precision and operational safety.
Heads of different departments, faculty members, industry experts, officials, students and distinguished guests attended the programme.
