A staff member of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) sustained a gunshot wound after being attacked by a group of unidentified assailants in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Friday night.
The injured man, Tanzid, 35, was shot near the Saidabad Water Pump area at around 10:30 pm.
He was later rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
According to his friend, Mamun, a group of around 10 to 15 miscreants arrived at the spot and suddenly opened fire on Tanzid.
One of the bullets struck him below the knee of his left leg. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Mamun said he was unable to determine the motive behind the attack and could not identify any of those involved.
Tanzid works for Dhaka South City Corporation and is reportedly engaged in mosquito control operations.
Md Faruk, inspector in charge of the police camp at DMCH, confirmed that an injured man from Jatrabari had been brought to the hospital and admitted to the emergency unit.
“We have informed Jatrabari Police Station about the incident,” the police official said.
