A fire that broke out in the cargo section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) late Friday night was swiftly brought under control, with airport operations continuing without disruption, officials said.

According to airport authorities, the blaze erupted in front of Gate No. 9 of the airport’s Cargo Village, prompting an immediate response from members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Group Captain Ragib Samad, executive director of HSIA, said the incident did not affect flight movements at the country’s busiest airport.

“The fire at the Cargo Village had no impact on flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The situation has been brought under control,” he told the media.

Shafiq, a duty officer at Fire Service Headquarters, said the agency received information about the fire at 11:24 pm and promptly dispatched four firefighting units to the scene.

“Four fire service units responded immediately and succeeded in bringing the fire under control by 11:38 pm,” he said.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze within 14 minutes, preventing it from spreading and averting a potentially larger emergency.

The origin of the fire and the extent of the damage were not immediately known.

Fire service personnel and airport authorities were conducting assessments to determine the cause and evaluate losses.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
