Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has warned that strict legal action will be taken against those attempting to disrupt the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
He made the remarks on Monday morning during a coordination meeting on overall security and traffic management for the upcoming DUCSU election, held at the DMP Headquarters conference room in Dhaka.
The commissioner assured full cooperation with the election commission and said, “We are fully prepared to support the election commission in implementing all its directives to ensure a free and fair DUCSU election. Those attempting to sabotage the election will face strict legal consequences.”
He emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among all government agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful election. “By working together, we can guarantee a smooth and peaceful voting process,” he added.
At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the comprehensive security plan for the election via PowerPoint. Following the presentation, representatives from various agencies participated in an open discussion and shared their valuable suggestions.
The coordination meeting was attended by DMP’s Additional Police Commissioners SN Md Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), Hasan Md Shawkat Ali (Logistics, Finance and Procurement), Md Masud Karim (CCTC), Md Shafiqul Islam (Intelligence), and Md Zillur Rahman (Traffic), several other senior police officials, including deputy and assistant commissioners.
From Dhaka University, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed was present along with Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, other returning officers, student representatives, intelligence agency officials, specialized police unit members, fire service personnel, and representatives from various government service organisations.
