The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has clarified that no firearms or bullets were used to disperse illegal gatherings in the vicinity of the State Guest House Jamuna and its surrounding areas on Friday.
According to a police statement, meetings, processions, mass gatherings, and demonstrations are prohibited in the Jamuna area to maintain public order and ensure the security of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
Despite these restrictions, multiple groups attempting to press various demands tried to bypass police barricades and advance towards the guest house.
To bring the situation under control, police used tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse the demonstrators. The DMP maintained that the operation was carried out in a “completely systematic manner” and reiterated that no lethal weapons were employed.
The incident resulted in minor injuries to several police personnel and some protesters.
The DMP further noted that certain individuals are spreading false and misleading information on social media to misinterpret the event. The police authorities have urged the general public not to be misled by such propaganda.
