Students from Chittagong University and local activists of Inqilab Moncho staged a protest in the city on Friday evening following a police crackdown on the fellow members during a demonstration near Jamuna in Dhaka.
The protesters gathered at Gate No. 2 in the city, demanding accountability for the police action and calling for the immediate release of their detained activists.
They raised slogans such as, “Why attack my brother? Interim response now!” and urged authorities to take swift action against the violence.
The demonstration caused severe traffic congestion, particularly along the Muradpur-GEC route, with commuters facing long hold-ups.
The protest was held in response to a police crackdown on Inqilab Moncho demonstrators in Jamuna earlier in the day, during which officers used batons, rubber bullets, tear gas, and sound grenades to disperse the crowd.
During the confrontation, Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, was reportedly hit by rubber bullets.
At least 30 other protesters, including Ammar, the general secretary of Rucsu, sustained serious injuries in the clash.
The protesters in Chittagong have demanded a formal explanation from the authorities and called for justice for the injured activists.
