Five individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting Mahfuzzaman Sarkar, an additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Diplomatic Security Division, in the capital’s Gulshan area.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night on a bridge within the Hatirjheel project behind Gulshan Police Plaza.

According to police, the ADC was returning home after duty when he became involved in an altercation with several individuals regarding a vehicle collision. During the dispute, the group launched an unprovoked attack on him.

The arrestees have been identified as Morshed Alam, Md Billal Hossain, Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Swapan Sarkar, and Sifat Yunus Lelin.

Golam Mortuza, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, stated that the attackers were intoxicated at the time of the incident. He further noted that no political affiliation was found for the suspects.

The injured police official was rescued and admitted to United Hospital in the capital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. He reportedly required 17 stitches for his injuries. A case has been registered at Hatirjheel Police Station in connection with the assault.
