Nearly two decades after Heyy Babyy hit cinemas, the comedy is returning with a sequel. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has confirmed Heyy Babyy 2 as one of three upcoming films that his production house will shoot in Australia.
According to Hindustan Times, Nadiadwala announced the sequel on Thursday while welcoming New South Wales Premier Chris Minns to his Mumbai office. The announcement came alongside a three-film deal between Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Australia, through Sydney-based TEMPLE.
The original Heyy Babyy, directed by Sajid Khan and released in 2007, starred Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Riteish Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan. The film followed three bachelors whose lives changed after they found themselves responsible for a baby. It received mixed reviews from critics but opened to packed houses.
The sequel will return to Australia, where the original was also filmed. The new production will form part of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment’s wider collaboration with Australia.
Recalling the experience of shooting the first film there, Nadiadwala said Australia was “breathtakingly beautiful” and offered a highly professional, efficient and welcoming environment for filmmakers. He said the directors and executive producers had a fantastic experience working there and praised the support given to the production team.
He added that he was delighted to take three more films to the country.
Chris Minns said Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment’s decision to shoot three upcoming productions in Australia was a strong vote of confidence in the country’s screen industry. He noted the production house’s long association with Australia, including filming the original Heyy Babyy there almost 20 years ago.
Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma also praised Nadiadwala and his team. He said the production brought a major ensemble of stars to New South Wales and left behind positive memories through the crew’s professionalism and respect for the Australian way of working.
Minns visited Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment as part of his India trip from 31 August to 3 September.
